Recognising scams and suspicious messages
Encryption keeps a message private, but it cannot tell you whether the sender is honest.
Treat as suspicious
- Anyone asking for a verification code — nobody legitimate ever needs yours.
- Unexpected prize, refund, or delivery messages with a link.
- Urgent requests for money, even from a name you recognise.
- A familiar name messaging from a number you do not know.
If something feels wrong
- Do not tap the link and do not send anything.
- Check with the person another way, using a number you already had.
- Block and report the chat.
